The Beautiful Guy Mugs
|
| |
| Last year, due to the efforts of many fans and friends of Guy
Williams, and the tenacity, spirit and hard work of Mary Sheeran,
who came up with the idea, got it started, and followed it through, a bench in Central Park
was dedicated as a memorial to Guy Williams. (Please see the Central
Park Bench pages in this site.) In January, 2003, a
member of the GWfriendslist mentioned that benches could be purchased
in memory of deceased loved ones and friends at the Mission San Luis
Rey. (For more information on the Mission San Luis
Rey, click on the link.) Mary Lou Houck and I were
instantly intrigued by the idea. What better places to have
memorials like that? In Central Park, in the city that Guy was
born and grew up in, and in the Mission San Luis Rey, in California,
where some of the first episodes of Zorro were filmed. Mary
Lou did the paper work, I contacted Guy's family, and Mary Lou
and I are both worked on the fundraising, with help from so many of
you. The
money was raised within a few months of the start of our project and the bench
was dedicated on August 2nd, 2003, on the second anniversary of the dedication of Guy's star on the HWOF.
(For more information on the Hollywood Walk
of Fame star dedication, please go to the HWOF
pages.)
A short history of the development of the mugs follows: During the time that the HWOF star money was being raised, I had thought that the drawings of Guy Williams by Patricia Crumpler would look wonderful on mugs, but other fundraisers brought in enough money for that event. When the CP bench project came up, Pat and I felt that this Central Park project was the perfect time to do something like this. With the help of another list member, Sue Schuck, I had the mugs printed, ordering 180 of them. As you can see, (poor though those scans are), they are still exquisite.
